EDDY’S ONTOP DUO FULL MOTION FLIGHT SIMULATOR

We find ourselves in Eernegem, Belgium, in the middle of the countryside. Surrounded by cows, sheep and then….suddenly, the door or a beautiful countryhouse garage home opens, and we are invited to enter Eddy Van der Stuyft’s favourite room. He calls it his ‘man cave’. Step inside and you will find a Virtual Fly Full Motion Flight Simulator.

Eddy flew for years as a commander in America. Since retirement he knows perfectly well how to compensate for the lack of this freedom in the air by his daily flights with his VirtualFly Ontop Duo.

This flight simulator is equipped with a G1000 glass cockpit that allows the simulation of four different aircraft: Cessna 172, 182, the Diamond DA42 and the Beechcraft Baron 58. This will already seem huge to simulator enthusiasts, but Eddy chose to go even further. The entire installation is based on a moving platform that allows the simulator to mimic the motion of pitch and roll. By combining these two movements, we manage to imitate the sensation of yaw.

Flying a simulator in a basic configuration means that you usually have a limited field of view. This is not the case here, as the five LCD screens provide an end-to-end view of the wing with a 220º visual.
This simulator is certainly the ultimate add on to the ‘man cave’ of any aviation fan. In addition, it can be used to train professional pilots. The simulator is an excellent trainer of procedures and instrument flight training.
